Building Work Begins at Surat Diamond Bourse
October 25, 16(IDEX Online) – The first construction work on the Diamond Bourse project near Surat, India's diamond manufacturing center, has begun in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Spread over 36 acres, the exchange will house 4,000 offices and provide employment for 1,500 workers, according to Indian media reports.
The bourse will also feature modern facilities, such as a trading hall, deposit vaults, banks, a customs office, retail zone, auction house and high security.
Deputy Gujarat Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that the state government would not impose a tax on imported rough diamonds due to be exported following cutting and polishing.
