ABC Mini-Series on the Effects of the Blood Diamond Trade

U.S. television network ABC is set to air a four-hour mini-series later this month called "Diamonds," which focuses on the “personal and political effects of the blood diamond trade on a global scale.”

Alchemy TV, which produced the program, has described the plot as “following a trail of greed and obsession.” The mini-series, it says, "traces the international web that brings us diamonds.”

The $15 million mini-series was shot in South Africa and Canada and has already sold to be aired in Canada, France and Spain. Canada's CBC aired the series in April.

It stars actress Judy Davis as a U.S. senator who travels to Africa to find out why her daughter was killed at a diamond mine in Sierra Leone, according to Hollywood trade paper Variety.

The cast also includes James Purefoy, Sir Derek Jacobi, Joanne Kelly and Louise Rose.
