Exploration and mining firm BRC DiamondCore sold a total of 1,909 carats for $2,492,715 at its most recent tender, the company’s third. The diamonds were extracted from the company’s Paardeberg East kimberlite and Silverstreams alluvial trial mining projects in South Africa’s Northern Cape Province.
One 77.34 carat stone sold for $904,724 or $11,698 per carat, and an additional 13.65 carat diamond sold for $518,180, or $37,962 per carat.
BRC commented that the tender demonstrated continued strong average value – at $390.90 per carat – for the production from the Paarderberg East kimberlite. A 57 percent increase to $2,511.19 per carat was realized in the average value for diamonds produced from the Silverstreams operation since the inception of sampling.
Commenting on the prices received on the third tender, CEO Theo Botoulas said, "The average prices achieved per carat for the entire run of mine production for both Paardeberg East and Silverstreams of $390.90 per carat and $6,065.89 per carat respectively are most encouraging."
