Diamond traders in Surat, India’s diamond polishing center, were happy to hear that Zimbabwe is not expected to be expelled from the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), according to a report in The Times of India.

Most diamond polishing units are using rough diamonds imported from the African country, the newspaper quoted local industry experts.

Industry sources told IDEX Online that much of these goods are in fact smuggled rough diamonds. With Zimbabwe in KP, it is easier to sell the polished diamonds.
