March 05, 08 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter
The Diamond Divas exhibition, set to open in Antwerp April 11, will feature diamond jewelry worn by Italian movie “prima donnas” Sophia Loren and Monica Bellucci.
The pieces on display will include a Bulgari diamond necklace, with matching earrings, set with a total of 1,600 diamonds, chosen and worn by Loren for a photo shoot for Vogue, as well as the two rings and choker worn by Bellucci in the Matrix trilogy. The latter were designed by Stephano Canturi, a jewelry designer based in Australia who creates jewelry for the silver screen.
Loren became a household name in the U.S. by the 1950s for her filmwork, and Belluci, who began her career as a model, most recently starred in the Matrix films and as Mary Magdalene in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.”
This is the first time the Bulgari necklace and earrings will go on display outside the U.S. and the first time the Canturi jewelry will be displayed publicly.
Diamond Divas, to be held in the Antwerp Diamond Museum from April 11 to June 8, will feature diamond jewelry pieces worn by royals, high society and famous film and stage stars. It is being organized by the Antwerp World Diamond Center and will be held under the patronage of Princess Mathilde of Belgium.
