Helzberg Cuts 21 Jobs at HQ

Fine jeweler Helzberg Diamonds eliminated 21 jobs at its Kansas City headquarters last week, including 14 filled and seven open positions, Chairman and CEO Marvin Beasley said Wednesday.

According to the Kansas City Buisness Journal, the move was a reaction to soft retail sales. Beasley noted the company does not plan to make any further cuts – Helzberg now has approximately 200 employees at its headquarters and approximately 2,500 employees at its other stores, which number about 260, he said.

“We think this is enough, and we think it’s going to be OK,” he commented. “We don’t know how deep this recession’s going to be.”
