The U.S. Imported $46.7 Million of Rough Diamonds in January
March 14, 10The U.S. imported in January $46.69 million worth of rough diamonds with a total weight of 13,113 carats. Net imports stood at $30.87 million after exporting nearly $16 million worth of rough diamonds during the month.
The average value of gross imports was a high $3,560.51 per carat. Conversely, exports were of low value goods, averaging $360 p/c.
South Africa was the leading supplier of rough diamonds to the U.S., shipping $26.47 million worth of goods weighing 3,064 carats, an average value of $8,640 p/c. South Africa was followed by Botswana ($9.8 million) and Angola ($4.8 million).
The volume of U.S. exports exceeded the volume of imports in January, with most exports destined to Belgium (36,592 carats). In terms of value, most of the exports were to Israel ($9.86 million).
