(IDEX Online News) –Jamie Mordaunt is joining the management team of I Hennig & Co in Botswana. Mordaunt will take part in the development of the operation.
The Diamond Trading Company is moving to Gaborone, Botswana in 2013, and many companies in the diamond industry are preparing for the shift, among them DTC brokers such as Hennig.
Mordaunt will relocate to Gaborone and join Hennig's representative Tshebetso Kgatlwane (Teekay). "This appointment is part of our expansion plans for the transformation of our Botswana office into a major hub," the firm said Thursday in a press release.
Mordaunt earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering before joining De Beers. His thirteen-year career at De Beers included extensive hands-on experience with diamonds, covering the full pipeline - from rough sorting, through preparing in Israel and India and polishing in Belgium, Thailand, Namibia and Botswana, all the way to the DTC’s sales department, where he was involved in Sightholder client management.
In addition, Jamie was part of the management team responsible for the launch of ‘Forevermark’ in Hong Kong, China, Japan and India.
"I am delighted to have Jamie join us, as we substantially increase our activities in Southern Africa, and particularly in Botswana," said Hennig’s Managing Director Arik Sela.
"Hennig was the first broker to open an office in Botswana, and this is another significant step which solidifies our on-going commitment to support the development of the Botswana diamond industry," Sela added.
Tshebetso Kgatlwane, who heads Hennig Botswana adds, “Jamie’s vast experience, together with his previous exposure to Botswana, and his established relationships with clients and DTC, means he will be able to contribute from day one, and I am pleased to have him on board.”
