Indian Government Constitutes Sub-Committee to Investigate Jewelry Excise Duty
April 25, 16(IDEX Online News) – India’s ministry of finance has announced the constitution of a sub-committee of a high level committee, which is looking into the issues related to the imposition of the jewelry excise duty, according to GJPEC.com.
The GJEPC report said that the deadline for jewelers to complete registration with the Central Excise department has been extended until July 1. The jewelry and export organization said that it was preparing its representation for the high level committee for the simplification of the excise procedure, which many industry members fear is too complicated.
The ministry announced the following members of the committee:
Dr. Ashok Lahiri, Chairman, Shri Gautam Ray, Member, Shri Rohan Shah, Legal Expert, Shri Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Joint Secretary and Shri Alok Shukla, Joint Secretary.
