Kabila Fires Country’s Diamond Chiefs
November 05, 02
DR Congo’s President, Joseph Kabila, Saturday sacked the managing committee of the country’s state diamond mining company, Miba. The dismissal came just two weeks after the UN published a critical report on the plundering of the diamond rich country.
According to the report, senior Congolese officials, among many others, took part in the pillaging, and through a network of military generals in neighboring Rwanda and Angola, funneled billions of dollars of state assets into the hands of private companies, some owned by them.
