Russian Authorities Serve Hungarians with Traub Papers
November 17, 03
Russia has served the Hungarian authorities on Saturday with a list of the offenses Avraham ‘Bumi’ Traub is allegedly guilty of, following the legal requirements that will keep him in Hungarian custody beyond the 40 days limit set until now.
It is still unclear what exactly the Russians are accusing Traub of doing, however serving this list indicates the Russian persistence on having him extradited to Russia to stand trial.
This latest development further complicates Traub’s legal situation, after earnest efforts and appeals to release him were made by various diamantaires and also by Israeli politicians, reportedly during a recent visit of Israeli Premier Sharon to Moscow, during which he met with Russian President Putin.
The Hungarians detained Traub, VP of the Israeli Diamond Exchange, October 9 in Budapest during a business visit after authorities received a warrant for his arrest by Interpol.
