India’s Gem & Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) organized the participation of 13 top Indian exporters in the JCK Phoenix Show in an effort to boost gem and jewelry exports and showcase the best of Indian jewelry in the international arena.
The firms exhibited in the World's Fair section at JCK held on February 7-9 as the Indian industry looks to boost its exports to $16 billion by 2007.
Sanjay Kothari, GJEPC Chairman said: "This is a move in the right direction for the Indian gem and jewelry trade because it opens up a whole new range of networking possibilities for the industry. In tune with the council's export vision for the Indian gem and jewelry industry to exceed 16 billion dollar mark by 2007, the Gem & Jewelry Export Promotion Council is looking for innovative ways to bring about a change in the perception of the Indian industry as a whole.
“To keep up the momentum, India will be participating in an array of top International trade exhibitions in the coming months, especially the Basel Show and the JCK Show - Las Vegas, which would definitely provide more impetus and exposure to the trade,” Kothari added.
The GJEPC last month announced a 22 percent increase in gem and jewelry exports in 2003 with total exports of $10.646 billion compared with $8.708 billion for 2002.
Kothari said international consultants had been appointed to recommend strategies to achieve the doubling of exports to $16 billion by 2007.
