Israeli Polished Diamond Exporters Post Solid Start to 2005

Israeli exports of polished diamonds increased 9.1 percent to $637 million in January, starting the new year on a sparkling note. Last year, the Israeli center also started on a high note, with an 11.7 percent rise to $584 million.
Imports of polished diamonds increased as well, up 12.3 percent to $231 million, compared to $206 million in January 2004.
The U.S., Israel’s main polished diamonds export destination, took in 64 percent of exports, an increase of 17 percent. A remarkable rise was registered in exports to Hong Kong – 71 percent, taking up a 14 percent share of polished exports, the second largest destination of Israeli polished goods.
