Mark Gershburg Leaves EGL USA, Opens New Lab

EGL USA CEO Mark Gershburg left his post at the gemological lab March 11 and announced he is opening his own gem lab in New York City. Gershburg worked at EGL USA for 22 years, starting as a grader and working his way up to Director and later CEO. 

Mitchell Jakubovic will replace Gershburg as EGL USA’s CEO.

Gershburg’s new lab, called Gemological Science International, is slated to open in early summer and will be located on Fifth Avenue. Debbie Azar from EGL USA will be joining him as Executive Vice President.

“Leaving EGL USA was a very difficult decision,” said Gershburg. “But I’m an entrepreneur, and it was time to move on and do my own thing. “
