Homeless to Benefit From Auction of Murdered Designer’s Jewelry
August 31, 05
Homeless charities will benefit from the auction of a jewelry collection and valuables belonging to eccentric German fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer, who was found strangled to death in January.
Among the items to go under the hammer at auction house Sotheby's in Amsterdam on September 13 is a broach set with diamonds and rubies, said by Moshammer to have been presented to controversial Argentinean First Lady Evita Peron in 1945 as a wedding present.
Among the 40 lots, which Sotheby’s estimates as worth €80,000 to €90,000 ($97,000 to $110,000) is a pair of Cartier earrings worn by Moshammer’s mother.
Although Moshammer, 64, left the contents of his villa to his much-loved dog, he decided that his jewelry collection and valuables would be auctioned for homeless charities he supported.
Among Moshammer’s clients from the entertainment industry were actor and now Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Spanish opera singer Jose Carreras.
An Iraqi man has confessed to strangling Moshammer in an argument over money owed to him for sexual favors.
