Jonathan Oppenheimer: Diamond Sales Exceed Seasonal Expectations
January 30, 06
Early indications from De Beers seem to indicate that Christmas sales performed ahead of expectations. Half of the world's diamonds are sold during the three month run up to Christmas, making the period extremely important for the world's biggest diamond producer.
Jonathan Oppenheimer, the head of the South African division of De Beers Consolidated Mines (DBCM) told Reuters last week that though the company does not yet have hard data, initial indications show that the results are a little better than expected.
De Beers left the price of rough diamonds unchanged at the first Sight of the year.
