5.47 Carat Canary Yellow Diamond Found in Arkansas

It was not rich enough to be a commercially viable diamond mine, but some great gems are found at Arkansas's Crater of Diamonds State Park. A notable recent find is a 5.47 carat canary diamond.

The Crater of Diamonds Park charges an entrance fee from visitors who can search its 37-acre plowed field, the eroded surface of an ancient, gem-bearing volcanic pipe, for diamonds. The policy is “finder’s keepers”.

Bob Wehle, of Ripon Wisconsin, will get to keep his find after visiting the park and finding the yellow diamond. It is the second-largest gem unearthed this year at the park.

Last month a couple found a 6.35 carat brown diamond. The largest diamond ever discovered in the U.S. was the Uncle Sam. A white diamond weighed 40.23 carats. It too was found in Arkansas.
