Dubai Police Arrest Graff Heist Suspects

Two persons have been arrested by Dubai police in connection with the Graff jewelry shop heist April 15 at the emirate’s Wafi City mall. A third suspect has also been detained in an undisclosed European country. Extradition proceedings have been initiated, say police.

Robbers rammed their vehicles into the store in mid-April and made away with a spectacular Dh15 million ($4 million) worth of diamonds, the biggest heist in Dubai’s history.

The diamonds have been returned say police.

After the heist, during which the robbers used toy guns, they burned one of their getaway cars, say authorities. They then disguised themselves in traditional abayas, or head coverings, and hid their loot in a rented car. Some of them fled abroad, while others remained in Dubai.

According to Dubai’s Chief of Police, the thieves are from Eastern Europe and had been using fake passports.
