At the finale of the HRD Awards diamond jewelry design contest in Antwerp Wednesday night, the top prize of the HRD Awards contest went to 39 year old Alina Sossou-Alamorean of France.
The culmination of the design competition took place amidst an extravagant evening of music and dance, under the theme ‘A Night at the Opera’, which was the theme of the design competition.
Sossou-Alamorean’s design is a cape made of iron wire, entitled “La cape indomptable” (the untamable cape). It includes 574 diamonds cut in pearl drop, cabochon and cube shapes. The total weighs of diamonds is 983.57 carats.
The goods were provided by Abittan Abrasives NV and Colour Me & Cabochon Diamond and sponsored by Cocon & Papillon & Marc Lauer.
This year, almost 700 designers submitted entries to the competition, of which 38 finalists reached the last round. Five winners were chosen by a jury composed of members of the art and jewelry sectors.
Freddy J. Hanard, CEO of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, praised the event and said, “In the jewelry business, all roads lead to Antwerp, and this clearly was demonstrated by many cutting-edge designs that flowed into our offices over the past year.”
