U.S. Polished Imports Rise 7.38% to $1.882 billion

July 15, 07 by Edahn Golan

The U.S. imported in May $1.882 billion worth of polished diamonds weighing 1,336,989 carats, an average of $1,407.72 p/c (per carat). Rising 7.38 percent in value and dropping 15.72 percent by quantity, the average value increased 27.41 percent year-over-year.

This is the highest value of monthly imports in the first five months of the year, probably reflecting imports ahead of the JCK Las Vegas show that opened June 1.

Israel was the source of 396,016 carats of diamonds worth $1.123 billion, an average of $2,834.54 p/c. Belgium shipped 144,752 carats valued at $321 million, an average of $2,217.70 p/c.

Imports of 637,151 carats from India were worth $259 million $406.59 p/c.
