U.S. July Polished Imports Averages $1,220 p/c

The U.S. imported 1,365,674 carats of polished diamonds with a declared value of $1.666 billion in July. The average per carat (p/c) value of $1,220.09 continues this year's trend of the average price generally hovering around 20 percent or more above last year’s imports.

Compared to 2006, the July polished imports are 10.17 percent higher in value and 12.56 percent lower in volume, resulting in a 26 percent increase in the average value over July 2006.

Compared to June, the average value of imports declined from $1,340.73 p/c, which seems to be an annual trend.

The U.S imported 53 percent of goods by value, 339,601 carats worth $883.38 million, an average of $2,601.22 p/c, from Israel.  

It imported 165,786 carats valued at $327.72 million, an average of $1,976.73 p/c from Belgium.

India was the leading source by volume supplying 54.19 percent of the U.S.'s total imports. This represents 740,082 carats worth $321.05 million at an average of $433.80 p/c.
