At a special release event, Laurence Graff, Graff Diamonds’ chairman, unveiled the 224.11 carat Lesotho Promise collection, a group of 26 D/Flawless diamonds, created from the 603 carat Lesotho Promise diamond, which the company purchased at a tender from Gem Diamonds for $12.4 million
The collection, created by a team of 35 people over several months, is reportedly worth more than $50 million.
The rough diamond, discovered in a Lesotho mine in October 2006, is the 15th largest ever found. According to Graff, not only was the stone of an incredible size, it was also immensely complicated, with numerous cracks and irregularities.
The polishing of the Lesotho Promise, including planning the process, was done by Diamcad, an Antwerp based manufacturer, MD Bart De Hantsetters told IDEX Online.
