De Beers Diamond Jewellers Opens Flagship Store in Tokyo

March 27, 08 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

De Beers Diamond Jewellers opened its flagship Tokyo store today (Thursday) in Japan’s luxury shopping Ginza district. The grand opening, to be held on Friday, will feature a 296.56 carat yellow rough diamond, worth ¥220 million ($2.2 million) on display, according to AFP.

The store, designed by French architect Christophe Carpente, will retail De Beers’ diamond and diamond jewelry collections, as well as high-end watches and bridal goods.

De Beers Diamond Jewellers is a joint venture between the De Beers Group and luxury goods firm Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey (LVMH).

In its financial report for the year 2007, De Beers noted that eight new stores were opened in the U.S., Japan, Dubai and Korea, brining the total to 23 stores worldwide. This year, De Beers also plans to open jewelry stores in the U.S., Hong Kong, Russia and the Middle East.
