Rockwell Tender Fetches $2.6 Million
June 17, 08
Rockwell Diamonds Inc. realized total revenues of $2,555,471 on its fourth 2008 tender, completed May 22, on sales of 2,142.52 carats. The results represent an average price per carat of $1,192.
The tender offered diamonds recovered from the firm’s Wouterspan, Holpan and Klipdam mines. Rockwell receives 74 percent of the revenues from the sale of the diamonds from these operations.
The highest per carat value came on the production from the Wouterspan operation, $1,566 per carat (p/c). Holpan followed close behind at $1,500 p/c, while Klipdam’s production averaged $800 p/c.
Rockwell notes that prices at this tender were strong in all categories. Top prices of $26,161 and $10,193 p/c were achieved on 20.90 and 12.45 carat stones from Holpan and Wouterspan, respectively.
Ten stones in the 10-20 carat size range were sold, eight stones of 21-30 carat, one stone of the 30 to 40 carat range and one 115 carat industrial quality diamond.
President and CEO John Bristow noted, "Although the overall prices realized were somewhat lower than past sales, the prices achieved were in line with the qualities sold. Had the 115 carat diamond sold in the latest sale not been a poor quality boart (industrial) stone, the overall average sale price would have been much higher.”
