Israel’s July Rough Diamond Imports: Shift to Cheaper Goods

The value of Israel’s rough diamond imports declined 5 percent in July, while exports increased 17.3 percent during the period. The volume of trade rose strongly, creating a shift towards lower priced goods.
Israel imported in July a net of 1,450,601 carats (+6.7%) of rough diamonds valued at $468.23 million, an average of $322.78 per carat.
In the first seven months of the year Israel imported 9,712,745 carats of rough diamonds (-8.9%) worth $3.24 billion (+11.6%), an average of $333.63 p/c.
Rough diamond exports of 1,503,457 carats (+27.5%) totaled $312.73 million (+17.3%), averaging $208.01 p/c.
Exports of 10,831,356 carats (-0.4%) in the year to date period carried a value of $2.489 billion (+24%), underlining the rising prices of rough diamonds this year.
