October 13, 08 by IDEX Online and JewelBiz India

Karp Impex plans to polish a

of the 128.47 carat rough it
bought for $94,419 per carat
A 128.47 carat D color flawless rough diamond worth an estimated $12.13 million is being cut and polished by DTC Sightholder Karp Impex in India, according to the company. It is believed that this is the largest rough diamond ever cut in India.

The rough diamond, mined at Orange River in South Africa, was purchased by the company at an auction held recently in Tender House, South Africa, Karp Impex Chairman Kishore Virani said.

The company estimates that it will take about four months to cut this large rough diamond and expects it to yield a polished stone of about 50 carats.
