GEM Awards to Feature Simon Doonan, Honor Madeleine Albright

Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys New York, will host the 8th annual GEM on Friday, January 8, 2010 in
“Simon is not only wildly entertaining, he has an immense knowledge of style, fashion and jewelry, making him the perfect choice to host this year’s GEM Awards,” said Martin Gatins, JIC GEM Awards chairman.
The GEM Awards honors industry figures — from retailers to manufacturers to leaders in media — who have raised the visibility of fine jewelry and watches. Doonan will host the event at its new venue, Gotham Hall.
This year, former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright will be honored with the “Style Award,” for the attention she brought to fine jewelry with the symbolic brooches she wore during meetings with various heads of state.
