July 12, 10
The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) announced Monday that it accredited SGS as the second auditing firm to carry out verifications of Members’ business practices. In June, RJC accredited STR Responsible Sourcing as the first auditing firm.
“The accreditation of SGS adds another highly regarded, international auditing company with considerable jewelry industry expertise and a global presence to serve the RJC’s growing membership,” said RJC CEO Michael Rae.
According to Rae, RJC will announce the accreditation of additional auditing companies in coming weeks.
From its beginnings in 1878 as a grain inspection house, SGS has steadily grown into the role of one of the industry leaders. Today, SGS is one of the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification companies, RJC said in a release. SGS employs 59,000 people and operates a network of more than 1,000 offices and laboratories around the world.
SGS is a UKAS accredited international provider to ISO/lEC 17021:2006 for providing audits and certifications of management systems.
