Cop Shoots Woman Suspect in Jewel Raid

May 14, 25 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A woman suspected of an armed raid on a jewelry store was shot in the leg by a Metro Transit Police officer in Washington, DC, USA.

She is alleged to have pointed a gun at the officer after she and a male accomplice attempted to rob Ideal Cut Jewelers, which specializes in repairs and keeps little jewelry in stock.

The owner and a worker were tied up at gunpoint during the robbery attempt, but managed to escape through an emergency back door and alert police.

The woman who was shot did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The officer involved was unharmed, and a weapon was recovered from the scene.

Washington DC's Metro Transit Police said both suspects were arrested after demanding merchandise at the store.

The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue NW, just south of Dupont Circle, on 2 May.
