(IDEX Online) - Cartier has emailed customers to tell them hackers stole names, email addresses, and countries of residence from its database.
But the luxury jeweler, part of the Swiss-based Richemont conglomerate, said the cyber criminals did not access any passwords, credit card details or other banking information.
The attack follows a number of recent, high-profile security breaches, at Marks & Spencer, Harrods, The North Face, Victoria's Secrets and Christian Dior (Europe), as well as Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat.
Cartier said in a statement: "We are writing to inform you that an unauthorized party gained temporary access to our system and obtained limited client information.
"We contained the issue and have further enhanced the protection of our systems and data. We have also informed the relevant authorities and are working with leading external cybersecurity experts."
