June 12, 25
(IDEX Online) - Ministers from African diamond producing countries and key industry figures will gather for a summit in Luanda, Angola, next Wednesday (18 June) to discuss the global promotion of natural diamonds.
The summit is viewed as a potential turning point for the sector, aiming to rebuild consumer trust and interest in natural diamonds over lab growns, by emphasizing their origin, authenticity, and community impact.
It will highlight the positive economic and social contributions of the natural diamond industry to producing nations and their communities.
The event is organized by Angola's Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum.
Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of Congo will all be represented.
Al Cook, CEO at De Beers, will attend, as will Isidore Morsel, chairman of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC).
Al Cook said: "We are proud of the beauty of diamonds and the benefits they bring to producing nations, but it's vital that we inspire consumers with the wonder of these natural miracles.
"I commend the Angolan Government for taking the initiative to establish this event so that key stakeholders in the diamond industry can come together."
Isidore Morsel said: "Over the past months, AWDC, together with other partners, has worked hard to unite all stakeholders behind a common ambition - and with success.
"The summit on June 18 has every potential to become a turning point for the diamond sector."
