Okavango Signs up to Tracr Platform

(IDEX Online) - Rough diamonds being marketed by Botswana's Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) are now being registered on Tracr, the blockchain traceability platform developed by De Beers.
De Beers says that since January of this year rough diamonds in the 3-6gr and 2-10ct size ranges have been registered, which means their provenance is indisputable.
ODC currently sells 30 per cent of the diamonds produced by Debswana, a 50/50 joint venture between the Botswana government and De Beers.
Tracr says it is the world's first fully distributed diamond blockchain platform, providing an immutable and transparent record of a diamond's journey from mine to market. It has partnerships with Brilliant Earth, Sarine and the GIA and GSI grading labs.
Mmetla Masire, ODC managing director, said: "By joining the Tracr platform, we are strengthening our commitment to transparency and ensuring that Botswana's diamonds are recognised for the ethical legacy they represent.
"This step is not just about technology; it's about trust, responsibility, and shaping a future where provenance is as valuable as the diamond itself."
Wes Tucker, Tracr CEO, said: "We are delighted that Okavango Diamond Company has joined the Tracr platform.
"This is an exciting step forward as we continue to expand traceability across the diamond industry and increase the volume of supply on Tracr."
