Staff Dismantle Baggage Carousel to Find Missing Diamond
June 24, 25
(IDEX Online) - A passenger has been reunited with the diamond from her engagement ring after a four-hour search by maintenance staff at Pittsburgh International Airport, USA.
The gem was found after workers dismantled part of the baggage carousel. April Schmitt lost the diamond from her 34-year-old engagement ring as she returned from a business trip to Los Angeles.
"As I went to retrieve my bag from the carousel, my hand got stuck between the suitcase and the edge of the carousel. It pinched my hand, so I pulled my hand back really quickly," she told KDKA-TV.
It was only when she was driving home from the airport that she realized the diamond was missing. She rushed back and spent 90 minutes searching the baggage carousel area with airport staff, but they were unable to find it.
Determined to help, maintenance staff later dismantled part of the carousel. After a four-hour search, they located the missing diamond.
Schmitt said she was "overwhelmed and incredibly thankful" to be reunited with the gem.
