Malabar Factory to Produce 4.7 Tonnes a Year of Gold Jewelry

July 10, 25 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Malabar Gold & Diamonds has opened its biggest manufacturing facility - with an annual production capacity of over 4.7 tonnes of gold jewelry.

The vast 345,000 sq ft factory in Hyderabad, Telangana, southern India, will also be able to produce 180,000 carats a year of diamond jewelry.

And it will include a gold refinery with an annual processing capacity of 78 tonnes.

It is the largest of Malabar's 14 manufacturing facilities in India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. It cost $116m to build and employs over 2,750 skilled artisans from 18 states.

"It represents a strategic leap toward positioning India as a global hub for fine craftsmanship and design excellence," said M P Ahammad, chairman of the parent Malabar Group.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds has over 400 retail outlets and an annual turnover of $7.5bn.

It's total annual production capacity, across all facilities, is now over 40.68 tonnes of gold jewelry and 361,000 carats of diamond jewelry.
