Inside Knowledge: Raiders Target $1m Jewelry
July 31, 25
(IDEX Online) - Burglars stole a safe containing $1m of jewelry in a warehouse raid that was likely based on inside knowledge.
The warehouse, in Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA, was operated by Riko Zakka, which specializes in cosmetics, toys, and jewelry imported from Japan.
Staff had, unusually, consolidated the entire jewelry inventory, ahead of a show in Pasadena.
Two raiders struck the night before the show, after ramming the store's gate with a van on 18 July. They were inside the store for just four minutes, according to surveillance TV.
The warehouse owner, who asked not to be named, said: "Honestly, we have no idea, but they just target it so perfectly.
"Before we do not show all the jewelry in one place, we always separate it."
Most of the losses are not covered by insurance. The business has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the stolen jewelry. No details of the stolen jewelry have been released.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says it has not, so far made any arrests.
