UPS Worker Accused of Stealing Jewelry from Parcels
August 07, 25
(IDEX Online) - A UPS worker has been accused of stealing jewelry and other items worth almost $146,000 - after customers complained they'd received empty parcels.
Shaylee Garber, aged 34, from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA, was allegedly seen in security video cutting open boxes, removing jewelry, putting it in her backpack and then re-sealing the packages with tape.
She is alleged to have carried out the thefts over a three-month period and to have pawned the stolen jewelry, or had others do so on her behalf.
Garber, who worked as a package handler at a UPS facility in Middletown, was arrested on 1 August.
She has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking, and mail theft, according to the Lower Swatara Police Department.
Police launched an investigation after an unnamed New York City business complained that customers' goods were disappearing in transit. She has been freed on $20,000 bond.
