Queen of Belgium's Jewels to be Sold
December 29, 25
(IDEX Online) - A platinum Art Deco demi-parure that belonged to the late Queen Fabiola of Belgium is to be auctioned next month.
The three-piece matching jewelry set comprises a diamond necklace of 38.62 carats, a 120-carat fancy briolette-cut aquamarine that can be attached to it, and a pair of long earrings, set with onyx cabochons, diamonds, sapphires and aquamarines.
The 1920s sautoir necklace, featuring old brilliant, Dutch cut, and 8/8 cut diamonds can be transformed into three separate bracelets.
The Queen, who died in 2014, aged 86, wore the necklace and the aquamarine pendant during her 1963 State Visit to Britain and for the 2004 wedding of Spain's Prince Felipe to Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, Queen consort of Spain.
The demi-parure (literally a half collection, as distinct from a seven-item full parure), is offered for sale at Ansorena auction house, in Madrid, on 21 January. Starting price is EUR 40,000 ($45,000).
