JIC Promotes Holiday Jewelry Purchases that Benefit Charities
December 09, 09
Jewelers of America (JA) is aiding jewelers during the important holiday sales season by promoting jewelry that benefits charities. Spokespeople for JA’s consumer education arm, the Jewelry Information Center (JIC), are making TV appearances featuring “Gifts That Give Back.”
During a multi-city media tour, conducted via satellite, that began last week, JIC representatives Amanda Gizzi and Helena Krodel are hoping to generate excitement among fine jewelry consumers by promoting the community aspect of jewelry purchases.
“This season, the top jewelry gifts are those that give back,” Krodel said. “By selecting jewelry that directly benefits nationally recognized charities, consumers have another great reason to give jewelry.”
The two will give examples of jewelry items that benefit the community at large. The following is a sampling of JA supplier members’ products that will be featured during the satellite media tour on Wednesday:
· Alex Woo
“Honey Bee” pendant in gold or silver.
How it gives back: Ten percent of the proceeds benefit research to determine why honey bee colonies have died.
· The Barber’s Daughters
Inukshuk sterling silver double dog-tag necklace, inscribed with Gandhi’s quote: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
How it gives back: Benefits Alicia Keys’ not-for-profit charity, Keep a Child Alive.
· Diana Vincent
Sterling silver pin with mist finish and a 5-mm rose quartz bead drop, designed to represent love, healing and comfort.
How it gives back: Net proceeds benefit breast cancer treatment.

How it gives back: Five percent of the profits go to the Global Smile Foundation, a charity dedicated to alleviating the suffering of underserved patients born with facial congenital deformities with special emphasis on cleft lips and palates.
