Woman Digs her Own 2.3-ct Diamond for Engagement Ring

(IDEX Online) - A New York woman was determined to find her own diamond for her engagement ring - so she spent three weeks digging at the Crater of Diamonds State Park, in Arkansas, around 1,000 miles away.
On the last day of her visit, 31-year-old Micherre Fox, unearthed the 2.30-carat white diamond that she'll now have cut and polished.
She decided a couple of years ago that she wanted to find a diamond by herself.
"There's something symbolic about being able to solve problems with money, but sometimes money runs out in a marriage," she said.
Her partner supported her endeavor, and agreed to wait until she achieved her goal.
On 29 July she spotted something glistening at her feet. "I got on my knees and cried, then started laughing," she said.
Micherre paid $15 a day to dig at the only diamond deposit in the US.
The Crater of Diamonds State Park, in Murfreesboro, is a 37-acre field - the eroded surface of a volcanic crater - that is regularly plowed, and that yields a variety of rocks, minerals, and gemstones as well as diamonds.
