Moscow Conference Brings Diamond Cut Players Together
April 28, 04
Organizers of the 1st International Diamond Cut Conference that ended last week have praised the seminar for bringing together major players across the world and strengthening relations between them.
The long-term aim of the three-day conference in Moscow that ended on Monday is to create the infrastructure for the verification of any diamond cut quality grading system based on master stones that will be examined in standardized illumination by various trade experts.
This would aid in the development of new cuts and improve the beauty and manufacturing yields for existing diamonds as well as building consumer confidence in diamond purchases.
Among decisions reached were that the master stone set will be made available to all major labs, including the GIA and Japanese labs that did not attend, to ensure that diamonds of comparable appearance would be given similar grades by all labs.
Conference attendees decided to set up a chat site that will communicate information to the industry and the public
AGS revealed during the seminar its new round and fancy cut grading system that will combine new parametric and direct assessment techniques, while Kristall Smolensk, Russia’s largest diamond manufacturer, discussed its own new diamond grading system.
