Renewed Interest in Pink Diamonds

December 29, 02 by IDEX Online Newsroom

When the news came out that Ben Affleck had given Jennifer Lopez a 5 carats, $1.1 million pink diamond engagement ring, naturally, there has been a renewed interest in the pink gems.

Natural fancy colored diamonds are very rare and as a result very expensive. Pink is one of the rarest and most desirable colors. The Darya-i-Nur diamond is the largest pink diamond in the world at about 185 carats.

In recent years, the Argyle mine in Australia has produced a relatively large number of fancy-colored diamonds, including pink ones. The increased availability of pink diamonds has increased the interest and demand for pink diamonds. Argyle now produces about 90 percent of the total world supply of pink diamonds.
