EGL Uncovers Unauthorized Diamond Markings

EGL offers, as part of its services, the inscription on a diamond’s girdle of the gemological certification number together with EGL’s logo, as well as other logos or markings at the owners’ request.
If the lab adds an inscription it notes it in the certification, therefore the unauthorized inscription also creates a discrepancy between the certificate and the stone.
Benhamou says that EGL's inscriptions are delicate and not deep, promising to never harm the diamond.
EGL Israel has already warned one such inscriber of infringing EGL’s rights and says it will continue to use legal means to prevent abuse of its reputation and the misleading of consumers.
In the past five years, the laser inscribing of diamonds has become widespread, partially due to branding initiatives.
