The Okie Dokie Diamond: 4.21 Carat Gem Found at Arkansas National Park

March 13, 06 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

You pay your money and you take your chances at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. For an Oklahoma state trooper on his first visit to the park, the $6 entrance fee proved a worthwhile investment. Martin Culver of Nowata, Oklahoma discovered a 4.21 carat flawless, canary-yellow diamond, which he has named the Okie Dokie Diamond.

The diamond is the largest of 84 found this year. More than 75,000 diamonds have been found in the park. Notable finds include the 40.23 carat "Uncle Sam," (the largest diamond ever unearthed in the United States); the 16.37-carat “Amarillo Starlight,” the 15.33-carat “Star of Arkansas” and the 3.03-carat “Strawn-Wagner Diamond”.

Crater of Diamonds State Park is the world's only diamond-producing site open to searching by the public.
