Sarin Patent Opposition Approved (Updated)
July 19, 07The Israeli Patent Office accepted an opposition filed by Sarin Technologies against Israeli patent application No. 151046 by Danog Properties & Investments Ltd, Sarin announced.
According to the release, Danog Properties tried to obtain a patent for laser-marking on diamonds, using a mapping system prior to marking, even though Sarin already possesses patents and patent applications for such mapping & marking devices in various countries.
“This is yet another step in our efforts to sustain our leadership as the most innovative and trustworthy company in our industry,” said Zeev Leshem, CEO of Sarin Technologies.
Danog is a holding company owned by Daniel Benjano, CEO of OGI Systems.
Benjano told IDEX Online that contrary to Sarin’s announcement, OGI is not part of this dispute and does not use the patent. “Danog chose to retract our patent request since the U.S. is our market, not Israel,” he said.
According to Benjano, Danog’s patent relates to laser markings on polished diamond’s girdle. “[The] patent application was not for laser-marking on diamonds but rather for automatic marking of diamond girdles using a laser (patent application 151046), which is fundamentally different.”
Benjano said that OGI considers the release misleading adding that they are currently considering their legal options.
