India’s Polished Diamond Exports Surge in June

India exported 3.22 million carats of polished diamonds in June valued at $1.038 billion, according to provisional data published by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). The exports represent a 13.94 percent increase in volume and 31.32 percent rise in value.

In the first quarter of the fiscal year, India exported 8.842 million carats worth $2.887 billion, rising 10.32 percent and 20.12 percent respectively.

Polished diamond imports in June reached 1.521 million carats carrying an import value of $378.21 million, soaring 171.19 percent in volume and 134.5 percent in value.

The high amount of polished diamond imports in June lifted first quarter results. They totaled 2.398 million carats, up 171.19 percent, worth $927.72 million, a doubling in value.

According to the GJEPC, India exported $423.92 million in gold jewelry in June, and imported $38.53 million, a rise of 42.22 percent and 42.9 percent respectively.
