The Gitanjali Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Italian fashion house, the Mariella Burani Fashion Group (MBFG), a move that is expected to drive growth of the latter’s brands, particularly the Mariella Burani, Baldinini, Rosato, Calgaro and Facco collections, in emerging markets and help the former expand its retail footprint and market share, particularly in India and North America.
Gitanjali will provide production, marketing, logistics and distribution expertise based on its extensive know-how of the Indian market and its existing retail network, while MBFG will contribute its consolidated experience in the design, development and international distribution of Italian lifestyle apparel, leather goods and jewelry collections.
According to Mehul Choksi, chairman of the Gitanjali Group, “The move will strengthen our international foray.” Giovanni Burani, CEO of MBFG, added, “The partnership is consistent with our strategy to expand internationally with top quality international partners.”
Gitanjali is a leading Indian diamond and jewelry manufacturer and retailer. MBFG designs, produces and distributes a diversified and complementary range of luxury apparel, footwear, leather accessory and jewelry collections under its own brands and under license for prestigious international designers.
Gitanjali has already taken a number of initiatives to enter the luxury lifestyle space, and will be hosting the Gitanjali Luxury Style Fest, a four day extravaganza to be held at the Turf Club, home to some of India’s most prestigious horse racing events during the Christmas weekend. It comprises multiple events to showcase luxury brands and is being projected as “an unprecedented weekend of top sport, fashion and glamour.”
