India’s December Rough Diamond Imports Avg $55.73 p/c

Rough diamonds weighing 17,753,600 carats and worth $989.48 million were imported by India in December 2007, an average value of $55.73 per carat (p/c). The imports represent a modest 8.19 percent year-over-year growth in value.

 

In the first nine months of the fiscal year, the country imported 126,256,950 carats of rough worth $7,262.03 million, averaging $57.52 p/c.

 

Compared to the year before, imports of rough diamonds increased 12.78 percent in value.

 

India also exported rough diamonds. The country shipped out 1.767 million carats with a declared value of $42.66 million, averaging $24.14 p/c.

 

Compared to December 2006, exports of rough diamonds fell 34 percent in volume and increased 1.31 percent in value.
