March 02, 08
The IIJS Signature, Goa show opened Friday with 98 hand-picked Indian manufacturers exhibiting to a small, select group of 350 international and local buyers. The designs at the event are meant to serve as a showcase of the industry’s innovation and design. Some manufactures have decided to utilize traditional designs of rose cut diamonds set in big and elaborate items with enamel and color gem accents, and to evolve them into contemporary designs – aiming for the large market of Indian nationals living overseas. Items were largely priced from $1,000 and up. Exhibitors expressed some mixed feelings about the show. Most expected to see more buyers and business, yet responded positively as to whether they planned to attendg again next year. All in all, the impression is that both existing and new buyers are placing orders, and a few noted that the orders were very large ones. The buyers have not been the typical mix of “This is the first show of GJEPC and it will highlight “The IIJS Signature is going to send a loud message to the gem and jewelry fraternity across the world that India has moved from being recognized merely for its labor intensive skills, to excellence in design and craftsmanship,” Navin Jashnani, convener, IIJS Sub Committee, added.
