HK International Jewellery Show Hosts 31,000 Buyers (Updated)
March 05, 08
The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show that opened Tuesday broke a fair record, hosting 2,306 exhibitors from around the world. Some 31,000 buyers are expected to visit the fair that closes March 8. Initial reports indicate that diamond traders are enjoying strong trade.
The 25th edition of the show includes exhibitors from 45 countries and regions, with Cambodia, Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait and Mexico participating for the first time.
In recent years the Hong Kong jewelry and diamond shows have grown in the number of buyers and exhibitors, as South-East Asia became the fastest growing market for an industry that looked for alternative markets to the U.S. The U.S. market has suffered from stunted growth.
Hong Kong is the world's fourth-largest jewelry exporter, growing last year jump by 17 percent to $4.3 billion.
The fair will include a number of seminars and auctions, one of them is Alrosa’s rough diamond auction which ends on Friday.
