Nakshatra Announces Katrina Kaif as New Brand Ambassador

India’s leading diamond jewelry brand Nakshatra has a new brand ambassador – Bollywood’s current queen, Katrina Kaif. The new association was announced Tuesday by Gitanjali Group Chairman Mehul Choksi.

 

Nakshatra was the first brand launched by the DTC in the Indian market soon after the commencement of the Supplier of Choice program in 2000. Gitanjali acquired 100 percent ownership of the brand earlier this year.

 

Kaif replaces another well-known Bollywood star, Aishwarya Rai, who had been the ambassador of the brand since its launch. “Katrina is the perfect representation of the young, trendy and fashionable woman that Nakshatra targets. She lends a refreshing look to the brand, and we are excited to have her as the new face of Nakshatra,” Choksi says.

 

The Nakshatra collection, in 18 karat gold, comprises floral designs with multiple diamonds encircling a single large diamond to signify the constellation effect and is available in three lines – Nakshatra, Eternity and Solitaire.

 

Soon after taking over the brand in January this year, Gitanjali announced plans to invest Rs. 1 billion ($24 million) in developing the brand and extending it to lifestyle products apart from jewelry, such as diamond-studded handbags, shoes and others. It also said that it planned to add about 200 outlets to the 480 stores that already retail the Nakshatra brand.
